Department Information: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Study Chair
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Study Chair was established in Rani Channamma University,
Belagavi in November-2017 with the financial help and grant of Rs. 200.00 Lakhs by
the Government of Karnataka to promote study and research about Ambedkarism. The
main objective of the study centre is to promote awareness among the students &
researchers about Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and his ideology and encourage
research studies in the Social, Political, Educational, Cultural and Economic
philosophies of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. The main objective of the centre includes a
study of the work of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar scientifically and objectively to
understand his relevance in present society. It also focuses on Dr. Babasaheb's life
and mission, his legacy, literature and its relevance, philosophy and his remarkable
vision.
Introduction
Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was one of the great personalities of the world
whose life, mission, vision & philosophy have influenced people across the
globe. He was the champion of humanism. He was an Indian jurist, political leader,
great philosopher, thinker, historian, orator, anthropologist, prolific writer,
economist, parliamentarian, scholar, editor, researcher, book lover, administrator,
social reformer, educationist, law maker and visionary of the country's
development. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was the first law minister of independent India
and architect of the Indian constitution. He was a multi-faceted and
multi-dimensional personality. His thoughts are very much relevant in the 21st
century as the most disempowered sections of society remain unaddressed. Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar was an illustrious son of India who struggled throughout his
earlier life to restructure Indian society on the lines of egalitarian and
humanitarian principles. He was a distinguished scholar of international repute.
Objective
The proposed Post-Graduate Diploma in Ambedkar Studies offered under the aegis of
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Adhyayan Peeth, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi attempts to
provide a common platform to academic research scholars, researchers, students and
social activists to discuss and debate the various dimensions; to provide feedback
and perspective to the Government on National policies for inclusive development in
various socio-economic sectors — employment, poverty, health, industry,
agriculture, education and social justice; to study and research on Dr. Babasaheb
Ambedkar's life, mission, his work and his contribution towards the upliftment of
the deprived sections of society; to make the new generation aware of Dr. B.R.
Ambedkar's various ideas on social justice, equity & national integration; and
to provide well-equipped centres of learning to intellectuals.
Vision
To strive for establishing the chair as a 'centre of excellence' on Bharat Ratna Dr.
B. R. Ambedkar's life, legacy, literature, philosophy and vision, and to focus on
his approach towards marginalized groups being with the National mainstream.
Mission
To provide & teach Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's life and thoughts on society, economy,
polity, fraternity, religion and democracy to U.G. and P.G. students; to imbibe the
relevance of his ideas to the current Indian environment and to enable students to
be competitive in a globalised world.
Goals
- To build up an independent museum related to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's thoughts
& philosophy.
- To publish research books/projects.
- To conduct International / National level seminars / conferences / workshops
etc.
- To conduct Indian Constitution awareness programmes at student and society
level.
- To conduct study tour programmes at national / international level.
Achievements
- A Two-Day National Seminar on the topic "Reason, Rationality and Republic:
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar" was organized from 27-02-2026 to 28-02-2026.
- In collaboration with various departments of the University, seminars,
lectures, and special lectures were organized. In association with the
affiliated colleges, "Mane Manege Mana Manakke Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar" booklet
distribution programme was also conducted.
- An Educational Study Tour was organized for the students of the Post Graduate
Diploma in Ambedkar Studies from 12-02-2026 to 14-02-2026.
- Constitution Day and the "Samvidhan Odu" (Read the Constitution) – 2000
programme, along with the distribution of books to all students and staff, was
conducted on 26-11-2024.
