1. ABOUT THE LIBRARY


The University Library came into existence with the establishment of the Rani Channamma University on 9th September 2010. Till then it was functioning as a Karnataka University, Kitturu Rani Channamma Post-Graduate Centre Library. In the midst of its excellent setup of academic activities, the library acts as a nerve centre catering to the academic and research needs of the students, the researchers and the faculty members of post-graduate departments, covering Science, Social Science, and Humanities, engaged in higher pursuit of knowledge.

Mission

  • Library promotes a culture of broad inquiry and supports the university’s mission to discover, preserve, and disseminate knowledge and creative expression.
  • It engages with the ongoing transformations in society to deliver services to research, education and outreach now and in the future.
  • The library acts as an abode of learning space and builds partnerships within and outside the university. It invests in its staff, collections and physical and virtual libraries. And, it serves as a neutral and trusted party supporting information access and scholarly communication.

7. RESEARCH SUPPORT


The library actively supports the research activities of the university by providing access to a vast collection of e-resources, databases, and research tools. Information regarding specific research projects by library staff will be updated soon.

8. ACTIVITIES (2021-2025)


The department regularly conducts a variety of academic and skill-enhancement activities to support learning, research, and professional development, including workshops, guest lectures, and awareness programs.

Academic Year: 2024-25

  • Inauguration of INFLIBNET Centre (14-10-2024): To enhance academic resource access and promote research.
  • World Book Day & Shakespeare Birth Anniversary (25-04-2025): A special book exhibition was organized.
  • Ambedkar Jayanti Celebration: A book exhibition displaying works by and about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
  • Women’s Day Celebration (08-03-2025): Fostered discussions on women's rights and empowerment through a book display.
  • Science Day Celebration (28-02-2025): A book exhibition showcasing scientific literature and research.
  • Book Exhibition in honour of Mahatma Gandhi (02-10-2024): To create awareness and interest in reading.
  • Book Exhibition in honour of Maharishi Valmiki (17-10-2024): To imbibe his teachings among students.
  • National Youth Day Celebration (22-01-2025): A book exhibition on Swami Vivekananda's works.
  • Book Exhibition in honour of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya (25-09-2024): Celebrating his contributions to Indian philosophy.

Academic Year: 2022-23

  • Seminar on Digital Ethics (13-08-2022): A one-day seminar on the "Role of Information Technology in maintaining Information in the Digital era" was organized on National Librarian’s Day.

Academic Year: 2021-22

  • One Day Workshop on Reference Management: Organized by IQAC in collaboration with the library to equip participants with skills in managing academic references.

9. FACILITIES


  • Open Access Services: Allows users direct and easy access to the book collection.
  • New Arrivals Services: New titles are displayed for at least one week before becoming available for borrowing.
  • Special Occasions Book Display: Thematic book exhibitions on special occasions.
  • Newspaper Clipping Service: Relevant news items are screened, scanned, and shared with university authorities and staff.
  • Reference Service: A separate reference collection including encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, and competitive exam books.
  • Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC): Facility to access databases of books, theses, dissertations, and serials.
  • Book Bank scheme for SC/ST Students: Students can borrow up to four books for one semester.
  • OBC Books: Offers over 2,500 competitive books for major exams.
  • Overnight Issue Services: Students can borrow one book overnight.
  • Periodical Services: Subscription to a variety of technical and general magazines and journals.
  • WI-FI Enabled: The library is Wi-Fi enabled for internet access.
  • Previous Question Papers: Available in both hard and soft copies.
