The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice offers M.Sc. in Criminology and Forensic Science Programme with Multi-disciplinary and Inter-disciplinary approach. The subject also offers Ph.D. Programme. Presently, there are 4 permanent teaching faculty members actively engaged in teaching-learning process and research activities. The main motto of School of Criminology and Criminal Justice in general is to produce most talented, skilled and trained students with building their capacity to contribute for national development and to serve for the noble cause of society and social justice. Apart from the regular teaching-learning process, The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice also inculcates a value system among the students through various co-curriculum and extension activities to teach them cultural pluralities and diversities. The subject of M.Sc. in Criminology and Forensic Science covers all major specializations in the field. It is a professional course with emphasis on development of necessary skills for Criminological professions like police, prisons, corrections, juvenile institutions, probation, private security management, private detective works as well as Forensic professions like Forensic Scientific Officers, Scene of Crime Officers, Scene of Crime Management Experts, Experts in finger prints questioned documents etc. In each semester, students have been trained Police Science and Forensic Science Practicals in the Laboratory- Like, Fingerprints, Questioned Documents, Hair and Fibre Examinations, Blood Test Examinations, Footprints and Simulated Scene of Crimes of Homicidal, Suicidal Accidental, Live Autopsy and Post-mortem Examinations etc. The field work placement is also compulsory in various criminology and criminal justice related agencies like Central Prisons, Courts, CWC, JJB, Psychiatric Wards, Women and Child Welfare Department Forensic science Labs Forensic, Medicine and Toxicology, Department Police Station, DIMAHNS, NIMAHNS etc, to give them first-hand information. These exposures of skill training and experiential learning will be very helpful to the students who are willing to join Police, Prison and Correctional Services, Defence services, Private Detectives, Security Management, Forensic Scientific Officers and Forensic Science Experts in Fingerprints and Question Documents etc.The Research Dissertation Projects are compulsory for M.Sc. Fourth Semesters The courses of Research Methodology, Statistical Application and use of computers are being taught. The Research Dissertation Projects helps students to gain experience in the application of Research methodology and Statistical Application concepts to the chosen problem. PhD Doctoral Work Programme in Department has also been running successfully dealing with various Criminology, Criminal Justice and Forensic Science related topics. We have PhD Scholars, who have cleared the UGC-NET/JRF Fellowship, The National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) and the National Fellowship for Other Backward Classes (NFOBC).

To produce young professional leaders in all inter-connected sub-disciplines. Criminology (analysis of crime, cause, nature and criminal mind) Penology (Correctional Administration, reformation and rehabilitation), Victimology (Victim Assistance and Victim Compensation), Police Science (Law enforcement, Crime Detection, Investigative Techniques and crime prevention), Forensic Sciences (Fundamental Principles, Techniques of Handling Physical Clues, its Examination and Expert Opinion), Criminal Law and Jurisprudence, Applied Criminological Research and Teaching.

The candidate with at least 50% of the marks in aggregate at degree level is eligible to apply. However, relaxation of 5% of marks for SC/ST/Cat 1 will be allowed as per prevailing rule of the university and government orders issued from time to time. |

Department is continuously conducting series of lectures by inviting eminent academicians and professionals in the field. Department has been continuously counseling the students to encourage and motivate them to enhance their confidence level learning process and also encourage them to appear for different competitive exams. As part of best practices, Dept. is conducting induction program every year for three days for the newly admitted students. Students are shown criminology and criminal justice related documentaries and movies during weekends. Students are being engaged in Co-curricular and Extension activities.
Organized Awareness program on Health and Menstrual hygiene for high school girls on 8th March, 2021 at Government High School Mukthi matt Bhutharamanahati, Belagavi. Dr.NandiniG.Devermani and Dr.MaheshwariS.Kachapur have created awareness among girls students and our department chairman Prof. R.N.Mangoli inaugurated the program, Sri S.V.Chandrashekar, Assistant Professor was present in the programme.
The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Department of Criminology and Forensic Science presently is running in a suitable building since 2013. The Forensic Science Laboratories are located in the main Department, where the students are getting benefit of conducting Police Science, Forensic Science, questioned documents, Simulated Crime Scene investigation and Forensic Photography practical etc. The students are also given experiential and hands-on Training by visiting fields works at Reginal Forensic Science, Laboratory, Forensic Medicine and Toxicology Department in KLE and BIMS for live post-mortem, Police Station, Central Prison, District Armed Reserved Police, PTI Khanapur, CWC, JJB, JMFC Court and Legal Aid Services etc. The Class-rooms are equipped with latest LCD projects for ICT teaching-learning process. A handy departmental library with fairly good collection of books, dissertations and proceedings of the conferences / seminars has been maintained. Students have always been given good opportunities to get exposed to learned lectures, discussions and debates by participating in seminars, conferences, workshops and training programs.
Creating awareness among the students regarding Career and Suitable job opportunities in various Departments of Criminal Justice System like, Police, Prison, CWC, JJB and other approved Institutions, Forensic Science Lab, Private Security & Investigation Departments and Teaching opportunities in Degree Colleges and Universities. We also show to the students the live Post Mortem and Medico-legal Autopsy videos and other videos on Criminology in the Department.

The Alumni Association Meet - 2020 was held in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice on 30th May 2020, through the Zoom Meeting Application. The significance of the Meeting was to know about the student’s alumni and their development as a graduate from the Department. The prime objective had deliberation on the application of knowledge, placements, and suggestions for improvement. Students were much satisfied about the knowledge imparted and suggested that the subject helps enormously in every field.
