1. ABOUT


The Department of History is a large vibrant intellectual community. The faculty members, students, staff & alumni of the Department of History are actively engaged in an enormous range of activities involving research, publishing, teaching, learning & public outreach.

Goals

  • To apply for the Major Research Project.
  • Survey of Historical Places of Belagavi District.
  • Field work for the unidentified historical places at Vijayapura District.
  • To organize a good number of Seminars, Workshops, and Conferences.
  • To arrange a good number of special lectures from different state universities.
  • To publish at least 2 more books on Art and Architecture and Tourism Subjects.
  • To guide Post-Doctoral Fellowship research scholars.

Achievements

  • More Than 10 Students have qualified for SLET.
  • 02 Students PASSED NET.
  • 27 Research Scholars have been awarded Ph.D. Degree.

2. PROGRAMMES


Ph.D. in History
Eligibility Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-I/Physically challenged) or equivalent grade in their Master’s Degree in History or an equivalent examination.
Admission Procedure Admissions are conducted through an entrance test. Candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE or hold teacher fellowships are exempted from the entrance test.
Master of Arts in History & Research
Eligibility Candidates who have passed B.A. examinations with History as an optional subject from Rani Channamma University, Belagavi or any other university recognized as equivalent are eligible.
Admission Criteria Candidates will be selected for admission as per the general guidelines issued by Rani Channamma University, Belagavi from time to time.
Mode of Study The medium of instruction will be English. However, students can also write their papers in Kannada.
Programme Duration The course of study shall extend over a period of four semesters spreading over two academic years.
Scope Lecturership and Administration.
Admission Procedure As per Merit at BA in history (Counseling Mode).

4. PROGRAMME SPECIFIC / COURSE OUTCOME


PG Programme Outcomes (POs)

  1. Student will learn the basic narrative of historical events, chronology, personalities, and turning points of the history of India, the World, and Karnataka.
  2. Build critical ability through competing interpretations and multiple narratives of the past, offering multi-causal explanations of major historical developments based on contextualized analysis of interrelated political, social, economic, cultural, and intellectual processes.
  3. Evaluation of historical ideas, arguments, and points of view; presentation of a summary of a topic in an organized, coherent, and compelling fashion, orally or written.
  4. Construct original historical arguments based on primary or secondary source material and the ability to identify and describe the contours and stakes of conversations among historians within defined historiographical fields.
  5. Students will acquire basic historical research skills, including the effective use of libraries, archives, museums, and databases.

Specific Programme Outcomes (SPOs)

  1. Through completion of a combination of courses, students become familiar with the political processes and structures, society and culture, political ideas and institutions, historical thought and historiography, economy and society in India, Kerala, and the world.
  2. Understand the background of religions, customs, institutions, and administration, and so on.
  3. By analyzing the relationship between the past and the present, students will understand the social, political, religious, and economic conditions of the people. He/she will be capable of leading and participating in discussions/debates.
  4. Develop interests in the study of history and activities relating to history. Students can participate in archaeological excavations, visit places of historical interest, archaeological sites, museums, and archives, read historical maps, charts, and write articles on historical topics.
  5. The study of history helps to impart moral and environmental education.

Dr. Chandrakant N Koligudde has completed his Post-Graduation Masters of Arts M.A in History and Archaeology, in the year 1997 from Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has completed M.Phil- Entitled Karnataka Dalitpithamah Devaray Ingle-Man and Mission and Ph.D Entitled Archaeology of Chikodi and Gokaka Taluks from Karnatak University Dharwad in 2005. He has also completed Diploma-in-Epigraphy, Diploma-in-Ambedkar Studies, Diploma-in-Jainology, and Diploma-in-Tourism. He worked as Guest Faculty at K.U.P.G Centre Bijapur for three years and two years in Rani Channamma University. Later he joined as Assistant Professor in Rani Channamma University on 9th July 2012. Presently he is guiding Ph.D. Research Scholars and has successfully guided 05 M.Phil students. His Area of Specialization is Archaeology, Epigraphy, Art & Architecture and Social movement. He has authored semester notes for the Dept. of History and Archaeology, KSOU, Mysore. He is Co-ordinator of IQAC, Dept. of History and Archaeology, PG Centre, VIJAYAPUR, Co-Ordinator of SC/ST Cell, RCUPGC Vijayapura and also in charge officer of E-Attestation. He has attended and Presented Research Papers at various State, National and International level Seminars, Conferences, and workshops. He has Published More than 40 Research Papers. He has successfully organised two workshops On Research Methodology in History and Archaeology.

Dr. Ramesh Kamble is presently serving as Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Dept. of studies and Research in History, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. He has started his teaching career in the year 2005 and has 19 years of Experiences along with teaching and Research. He has completed his Master of Arts in History and Archaeology during the year 1998-2000 from Karnatak University Dharwad. And later he Joined Ph.D. in the same University on the topic entitled “Writings of Dr.B.R.Ambedkar on Varna System” which was awarded in the year 2005. He has also completed Diploma-in-Ambedkar Studies and Diploma -in-Tourism. He joined Rani Channamma University in the year 2012. He has published more than 46 Research Papers in the reputed journals with high Impact Factors, Presented Research Papers and attended at National, International and State level Seminars, Workshops, Symposiums and Conferences. And also Organised Workshops in Research Methodology in History. He has worked in several academic and administrative Capacities like Hostel Warden, SC/ST Cell, and NSS Programme Officers, Members of Govt. School adaptation Committee, Student Welfare officer BOS, BOE, BOAE and Department Council. He has completed minor Research project on “Change in Socio-economic Status of Scheduled Caste through Implementation of Reservation Policy- A Study of Vijayapur District” through the financial support of Rani Channamma University. He has written Six Books and successfully guiding three Ph.D. Students and two are on-going. He is the Life Member of the many Academic Bodies namely Indian History Congress, Karnataka History Congress and Itihas Academy.

Seminar on Research Writing Skills and Ethics

Summary: The function was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. C.M. Thyagaraja, who spoke about the historical importance of History and Literature. The Keynote Speaker and Research Person, Prof. Ramesh Nayak from the Dept. of History & Archaeology, Karnataka University, Hampi, spoke on Historical and Archaeological Methodology followed by archaeologists and historicists. The President of the function was Prof. K.L.N. Murthy, who in his Presidential Remarks talked about the use of Historical Methodology.
