Green Campus Policy

Preamble

Rani Channamma University, Belagavi (RCUB) recognizes that its institutional operations and resource consumption interact with, and influence, the external environment through physical, economic, and social processes. The University is committed to advancing environmental sustainability by conserving natural resources and developing a green campus in accordance with the guidelines of the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka.

RCUB acknowledges that resource conservation, zero-waste campus development, carbon-footprint reduction, water conservation, and the adoption of renewable energy systems are fundamental components of environmental sustainability.

Aim and Objectives

RCUB aims to establish and sustain high standards of green campus development through the adoption of environmentally sound technologies, scientific management practices, and institutional best practices. The University seeks to achieve this vision through the following specific objectives:

  • Awareness: To promote awareness among students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders on environmental issues, responsible resource use, and sustainability.
  • Education & Capacity Building: To implement and demonstrate green initiatives through education, training, and capacity building.
  • Curricula & Field Learning: To strengthen knowledge of biodiversity, sustainability, waste management, resource conservation, and renewable energy through research, curricula, and field learning.
  • Sustainable Solutions: To promote research that develops sustainable solutions for a clean, healthy, and eco-friendly environment.
  • Strategic Partnerships: To build partnerships with government agencies, industries, NGOs, civil society, and academic institutions to strengthen Green Campus initiatives.
  • Environmental Audits: To conduct periodic environmental audits across RCUB campuses for continuous sustainability improvement.
  • Events & Workshops: To organize and participate in events, workshops, seminars, and conferences that promote environmental awareness and green campus best practices.
  • Integrated Action Plan: To implement an integrated sustainability action plan that embeds environmental priorities in University decision-making.
  • Statutory Compliance: To ensure compliance with applicable national and international environmental laws, standards, and guidelines.

E-Waste Management Policy

Preamble

Rani Channamma University (RCUB), Belagavi recognizes that improper handling and disposal of electronic waste (e-waste) can have serious environmental and health impacts. With the increasing use of electronic and electrical equipment in academic and administrative activities, the University is committed to ensuring environmentally sound management of e-waste in accordance with the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2016 and subsequent amendments issued by the Government of India.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this policy are to:

  • Safe Disposal: Ensure safe, responsible, and sustainable disposal of e-waste.
  • The 4 Rs: Promote reduction, reuse, refurbishment, and recycling of electronic equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Comply with statutory regulations and environmental standards.
  • Risk Mitigation: Minimize environmental pollution and health hazards.
  • Stakeholder Awareness: Create awareness among stakeholders regarding e-waste management.
  • Systematic Process: Establish a systematic process for the collection, storage, and disposal of e-waste.
